Program Overview

The AUMT Medical Assistant Program is designed to efficiently prepare students for a career as a Medical Assistant. This accelerated training program equips students to sit for the Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exam offered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Our program combines comprehensive classroom instruction with hands-on externship experiences.

Role of a Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants play a crucial role in healthcare settings, assisting doctors with both administrative and clinical tasks. Their responsibilities include:

Administrative Duties:

  • Answering telephones

  • Scheduling appointments

  • Bookkeeping and filing

  • Completing insurance forms and basic billing

Clinical Duties:

  • Taking vital signs

  • Administering injections and medications

  • Drawing blood and performing basic lab tests

  • Assisting with minor surgeries

  • Positioning patients for examination


Our curriculum covers both the administrative functions of a medical office and the anatomy andphysiology of body systems. Instruction includes theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on training.

Program Structure

The program consists of didactic lectures and laboratory instruction, followed by an externship to ensure practical experience.

    • Covers theory related to front and back office operations.

    • Includes hands-on training for clinical and administrative procedures.

    • Skills are verified through a check-off system.

    • 160 hours of practical, real-world experience in a medical setting.

    • Required upon successful completion of the didactic portion.

Admissions Requirements
    • Be at least 18 years old

    • Have one of the following:

    • High School diploma/transcript

    • General Education Diploma (GED)

    • Foreign transcript (translated and evaluated)

    • Prospective students will meet with an admissions representative for a qualification assessment and a physical tour of the facilities.

    • Please note, AUMT is not responsible for license renewals. Licenses must be renewed every two years. For assistance, visit the CDPH/LFS website.​

What Is a Clinical Medical Assistant?

The Clinical Medical Assistant Program equips students with the hands-on skills and practical knowledge to support clinical care and administrative operations in medical settings. For $2,995 or less, you can become certified as an entry-level clinical medical assistant in as little as 8 weeks. Interest-free payment plans are available, and everyone qualifies. No previous medical experience is required.

This is a hybrid course, with 50% instructor-led online lectures and 50% hands-on lab training. The program satisfies all training guidelines established by the Medical Board of California and is authorized to run through CALRegional’s partnerships with local schools.

Upon completion, students are prepared to take the national Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) exam through the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA). 

If you’re interested in administrative work but also enjoy working hands-on with patients, the Clinical Medical Assistant Program may be right for you.

Phlebotomy Externship & Certification

Externship

The Phlebotomy Technician Program includes a built-in externship. A clinical externship is required in California to obtain state licensure.

Because of our partnership with GCC Laboratories, our locations include an on-site lab so students can quickly finish the program and externship.

Beware of phlebotomy programs that do not guarantee externships, as this can result in a delay or failure to obtain state licensure.
